Buoys on south end of lake…

I just wanted to mention that Leroy B has put the hazard buoys back in on the south side of the lake. Thanks, Leroy.  The markers on the north end of the lake may be in also, but I have not heard from anyone on that part of the lake. As always, remember that if you are not familiar with the lake, please be careful because all rocks and shallow spots can’t be marked. It’s no fun to end up with a hole in the boat or someone injured because you were going to fast in an unfamiliar place.

Roads are open…

As of Monday, April 23, 2012, gates around Nicatous have been opened. Please use care when traveling on the roads. Sides of road will probably be quite soft, so please try to stay in the middle of the road. See you at camp!

April 16, 2011 road closure update…

According to AFM road information line (207-827-3700 – Ext. 100), roads will be reassessed at end of the week and HOPEFULLY roads will open on Monday, April 23rd.

“Hopefully” was their word, not mine, so please keep in mind that if they feel roads aren’t ready for traffic, that date could change.

Spring road closure – 2011…

Snow & ice in early March…

For those of you that are wondering about ice and snow conditions at the lake, Theresa, from Nicatous Lodge writes “We only got 3 to 4 in. Fri. and it rained mostly Sat. but didn’t stop the sledders on Sun. Groomer is out now. Our trails are still good! There is still plenty of ice on the lakes, a few soft spots.”

Since the lodge is located on the north end of the lake, we don’t know what the roads look like getting to the south end. If anyone went last wekend, please email me or post the conditions to Facebook.

Last update for February…

Donna B wrote the following on our Facebook page:

“Leroy and I just got back from the lake,the weather was really nice about a inch of snow Tuesday night.There is a NO snowmobiling sign up on the 32-00-0 right after Deer Lake driving up in the 32-00-0 but there is no other signs up.Does anyone know What is up with that??”

She also reported that it was pretty quiet from February 26 – 29. Thanks for the update, Donna.

Another February report…

For those of you not following Nicatous on Facebook, Angus M. reported the following: “We give kudos to Nicatous Lodge their trails were groomed perfectly. While all the other trails were very marginal. Driving in on Sat 2/18 the 4500 was softening up but when we left 2/21 it was hard due to it being cooler the night before. Hope the predicted rain and 50 degrees don’t cause the roads to be closed but I would not be surprised if they did.”

He posted a couple of pics, including one of the salmon that they caught on Duck Lake. Check it out.

Strange weather that you guys are having in Maine this year. :-)

The lake – mid February.

Donna B just posted an update on Facebook and I thought I would copy it here for those of your that don’t use our Nicatous Facebook page.

Donna posted the following: “Hi everyone  Leroy and I just spent 4 days on the lake – nice weather around 18 inches of ice on the lake.We was able to drive into camp you can snowmobile if you have a sled that don’t over heat. When we came out Friday after noon there was spots on the 32-00 that was melting with dirt spots and the 45-00 was muddy. See photos of Leroy 16 inch trout and the lake.”

What is it like at the lake right now?

Angus M.  just posted on the Nicatous Lake Facebook page to let everyone know what it is like at the lake right now. He posted the following: “Drove in to camp this past weekend. Road is OK 35 mph slightly rutted. Ice 5-7″ on Saturday thickened up by Monday. 4 wheelers would have been better than the snowmobiles we brought. very little snow 3-4″ max. Kids skated on the clear black ice patches. Only 1 eagle sighted. Very cold”
