We were fortunate to still be here at the lake last week to see the stocking of 4000 brown trout. We drove to the landing on the south end of the lake just after the three trucks containing the fish arrived.
It was a very efficient operation and within an hour, Nicatous Lake had 4000 new residents. Each truck contained six reservoirs containing the brown trout. The bottom of each tank has a large hole that they open to release the water and some of the fish but most of the fish are netted by the hatchery personnel from the Maine Fish & Wildlife department.
The fish were raised at the Palermo Rearing Station. They were two years old and were approximately 12″ – 14″ in length. We were told by the hatchery personnel that the fish will likely not reproduce. They have a life span of about seven years so that gives them five more years to grow and for someone to catch them. Get those fihing rods ready!
I have put more photo’s up at the Nicatous Lake Facebook site. Just click HERE to see the photo’s.
Catching any brown trout – be sure to add your photo’s to the Facebook page for everyone to see!
