Loon Counters still needed for annual count…

If anyone would like to help with the loon count on July 16th, we can still use a few counters. For more information on the loon count, please see post below. Contact Steve Buzzell via the  contact form on this site by Wednesday, July 13th and he will assign you a place on the lake so that we can get the entire lake counted.

28th Annual Maine Audubon Loon Count – July 16, 2011

Clear your calendar for the morning of July 16th and join us for the 28th Maine Audubon annual loon count.  All it takes is a short part of your day to help us count the loons on Nicatous Lake. If you are interested, please contact Steve Buzzell by using the contact form on this site or stop by camp.

The count takes place from 7 AM – 7:30 AM and is held rain or shine (or wind). All you need is a boat and a willingness to get and out a bit earlier than usual. We hope to hear from some of you. This lake is large and the more we can split it up, the better it will be to get an accurate count. Also, if anyone know of any nests on the lake, please let Steve know, even if you are unable to count the loons. He can note the nest sites on the final paperwork that he sends to the Audubon Society.

27th Annual Loon Count is drawing near…

The Maine Audubon 27th annual loon count will be held on July 17, 2010. A few years ago, Steve Buzzell started to coordinate the loon count on Nicatous and he is looking for folks that are interested in being a loon counter this year.

The count will be held on July 17th from 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. The count is held RAIN or SHINE so please know that no matter what the weather, the count is still held. If you are interested, please contact Steve via the contact form on this site. If anyone knows where there is a nesting site on the lake, please contact Steve even if you don’t want to be a counter. He will still be able to note the nesting sites on the paperwork that goes back to Maine Audubon.

On another note, Maine Audubon is holding the 2nd annual loon photo contest. The contest is open to anyone with a camera and there are prizes awarded to the winners. More info and contest rules can be found by clicking HERE.
